This is not a lecture about distrust. It is the same habit shop staff use when we receive cartons from distributors. A crushed corner, a security sticker that was reheated, a serial number that does not match the invoice—these take thirty seconds to spot.

Universal steps (any gadget)

• Match the label on the box to what you ordered—model name, color, quantity.
• Photograph the outer carton and the shipping label before you open. WhatsApp it to yourself. Boring now, gold if you need support later.
• Power on if battery allows. Dead-on-arrival happens. Plug in for two minutes if it will not wake.
• Run one feature you care about: one call on earbuds, one watt reading on a charger if you carry a meter, one light level on a ring light.

Earbuds and neckbands

Pair both sides. Play a voice note you recorded on the spot. Walk three meters from the phone. If one side never connects, that is a return, not “maybe it fixes later.”

Chargers and power banks

Feel the brick after five minutes on load. Smell matters—burning plastic is instant no. For banks, check that USB-C in and out both work, not just the built-in cable.

Tripods and ring lights

Extend legs once. If a clasp slips under light hand pressure, the stand will drop a phone during your first reel.
